Guide
Confused by all the technical jargon? Here we explain the essentials of getting yourself up and running with a website..
Hosting
For your website to be available to all on the internet it needs to be hosted on a computer (known as a server) somewhere. This normally costs a monthly or annual fee.
Domain Names
A domain name is what people type into the browser address bar to go to a website. pentatonixdesign.com or fredscakes.co.uk are examples.
Domain names are bought from a domain name registrar and are typically renewed on a yearly or bi-yearly basis.
Search Engines
Most people use search engines to find what they are looking for on the internet. This means that where your site appears in search engine results is vitally important to generate visitors to your site and therefore more business.
We work with you to develop a set of targeted keywords and optimise your website to help improve it’s search engine ranking for those keywords.
As part of our support package we then monitor your search engine ranking and provide reports with advice on how to improve it.
Content Management
Content Management (or CMS) refers to the ability for you to amend your website content using admin screens – web pages that only you (or people in your organisation) can access and use to update your website whenever you like.
Once you have your own domain name you will want to use it in your email address to create a more professional image. You might want john@mycompany.com, mary@mycompany.com and sales@mycompany.com for example.
Ecommerce
Ecommerce means selling things directly on your website. Be it a handful of products or a full grown online store we can talk you through the options and integrate your website with the solution appropriate for your needs.
